Hi! My name is Jimmy King.
I’m a West Coast based writer.

“Aren’t you a playwright?”

In 2015, my first professional production, Rivulets: 3 Short Plays About a Flood, was nominated for six Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards in the Small Theatre category, winning one for "Outstanding Original Script."

That same year, my short play Seabird Is in a Happy Place won the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Playwriting competition in New York City.

I hold a BFA in Performance Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University and a Master’s in Playwriting from the University of Victoria. My selected theatre credits include Seabird Is in a Happy Place (40th Samuel French OOB Festival, Babelle Theatre), Rivulets (Babelle Theatre), Movements 1&2 (Babelle Theatre), and This Is a Love Story (Théâtre la Seizième).

Most recently, I was part of the 2024 Pacific Screenwriting Cohort (showrunner: Michael McLennan) and have several TV projects in early development.

I’m also really good at handstands - seriously, I can hold em’ long.

“What Do You Write About?”

As someone who works in t.v. and theatre, I try to keep my work as broad and as accessible as possible (ie. engaging plot, complex characters with satisfying arcs, sprinkle in some comedy, some romance). But if I had to dig deep and choose a unifying theme in my work it would be ‘relationships’. Everything in nature lives in relation to something else and part of what I love about telling stories is in drawings the connections between people, places, and things - showing how we all, for better or worse, are bound to one another.
